My husband was a healthy, active and productive 75-year-old when he was diagnosed with Stage-4 Esophageal Cancer. After four rounds of chemotherapy, he was admitted to the ICU where he was stabilized. That said, the treatment and its side effects took a tremendous toll on his body causing him to lose over 40 pounds, leaving him emaciated, atrophied and extremely weak to the point that he required assistance repositioning in bed.

Once he was transferred to a floor, we were referred to Martin Nguyen from Réadaptation Mobile to supplement the physiotherapy that the hospital system was able to provide. Martin evaluated my husband and with attention to his threshold, introduced exercises in keeping with his capacity. Martin visited regularly there and later at home to maintain momentum, which meant that my husband did not have to displace and was seen privately and in the comfort of our home environment.

Martin is not afraid to challenge, while avoiding over-exertion, always checking O2 and pulse with his Oximeter, ensuring they are within range. Martin arrives with equipment, from yoga mats, to weights, for my husband to use between visits. There is also a ‘personal space’ on his website where tailored videos of the current program are uploaded for reference and modified as he goes along. Answers to any email are responded to promptly.

Martin has a patient, professional, flexible and encouraging approach to service which helps in healing. He looks at the whole picture, inquiring about nutrition, sleep, emotional state etc., with the understanding that they all intersect with one’s physical recovery. Martin has also connected with the Oncologist, keeping multi-disciplinary channels of communication open, which is appreciated by the physician and us.

My husband was discharged from the hospital 3 months ago and is doing remarkably well. He is lifting 15-pound weights, walking stairs and has resumed functional activities faster than we ever thought possible. Martin has clearly played an invaluable role in my husband’s physical and psychological rehabilitation.

I am writing this letter to sincerely compliment Mr Martin Nguyen, Physiothérapeute à Domicile, for the excellent care and services he has rendered to my brother for the last 2 months. He has been offering an impeccably high standard of care, and he is going above and beyond to help my brother resume his walking, which it has been heavily deteriorated in the context of severe medical comorbidities.

He has always kept me updated, and sent me videos with my brother’s evolutions and developments.
